KQ21VE that's over 71Deg North

Nordcapp - quite a serious journey from the dock to the tourist centre - this was through some desolate landscapes, your wouldn't last long walking in these temps -10 or much less in the wind. The 2 coaches had a snow plough in front, just in case.

I took my old gps with me, and in the frezing wind on the cliff top at Nordcapp took a reading. I'd left it set to the 'Maidenhead' standard - a standard used by ham radio - my home is IO82SP - this is a lot more North. KQ21VE - ignore the trip settings but the time is correct 12:08 and yes, its dark. I see plenty of pictures of that area in the Summer, people camp and stay up there - one crazy guy drove all the way from mid Europe somewhere to Nordcapp on a stacker truck apparently. Out short visit soon ended and again, no messing, the buses left. The Polarlys had a schedule to keep.

More in the next one.
